Fairy Pinball - Yousei Tachi no Pinball is an unlicensed pinball game released for the Famicom Disk System, likely sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. As an unlicensed title, it was produced without Nintendo's official approval, which gives it a certain rarity and mystique among collectors. The Japanese title translates to something like "Fairy Pinball - Fairy's Pinball," hinting at a whimsical, sprite-based theme centered around fairies. At its core, this is a standard pinball simulation adapted for the FDS hardware. You control a pair of flippers using the controller, launching a silver ball into a vertically oriented playfield filled with bumpers, targets, and other obstacles. The goal is to score as many points as possible while keeping the ball in play using precise timing and flipper control. Specific tables or objectives beyond score chasing are not widely documented, but the genre's basic loop of launching, flipping, and reacting remains intact. Today, Fairy Pinball is most interesting as a curio of the FDS's unlicensed software library. It does not have the polish of official Nintendo-published pinball games like Pinball for the NES, but its obscure nature and the fairy theme give it a certain charm. If you enjoy hunting down rare FDS titles or exploring the creative fringe of Japanese indie game development from that era, this title is worth a quick playthrough for the novelty. Just don't expect deep mechanics or a lengthy campaign.

How to play Fairy Pinball - Yousei Tachi no Pinball online

When you first load Fairy Pinball, you will be greeted with a title screen entirely in Japanese. Use the D-Pad to navigate menus and press the X button (A button) to start the game. Once in the game, you control a pinball table viewed from above. The D-Pad does not move the ball; instead, you use the A and B buttons (X and S keys) to operate the left and right flippers respectively. Typically, Press the X key to activate the left flipper and the S key for the right flipper. To begin a round, press the Enter key (Start) to launch the ball. The core loop is straightforward: keep the ball from draining between the flippers by timing your flipper presses. Aim for bumpers and targets to rack up points. Like many pinball games, there are no continues or lives - your game ends when the ball is lost. The menus are entirely in Japanese, but the gameplay is intuitive enough that language is not a barrier. Simply flip, score, and try to beat your own high score.
