Asterix (ver EAC)
Asterix (ver EAC) on arcade
Asterix (ver EAC) is a platform game originally released by Infogrames in 1995. While the version on this arcade archive is likely an emulated port of the MS-DOS or console release, the game itself first appeared on multiple home platforms including MS-DOS, Windows, Super NES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color. It's a side-scrolling action-platformer based on the beloved French comic series, letting you take control of the iconic Gaulish warriors.
You play as either Asterix or Obelix, each with slightly different abilities - Asterix is quicker, Obelix is stronger. The core loop involves running and jumping across themed levels, defeating Roman soldiers and other cartoonish enemies by jumping on them or using basic attacks. Collecting magic potion bottles or golden items boosts your score or health. One interesting feature is the local two-player mode, where a friend can join using the same keyboard, making for a chaotic co-op romp through Gaul and beyond.
For fans of 16-bit licensed platformers, Asterix is a solid example of the genre done right. It captures the humor and art style of the comics well, with colorful sprites and music that fits the theme. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a faithful adaptation that offers decent challenge and a good time for one or two players. If you enjoy retro platformers like the Disney titles or other comic-based games of that era, this is worth a try.
How to Play Asterix (ver EAC) Online
Getting started is straightforward. When the game boots, you'll see a title screen. Press Enter to start, then on the character select screen choose between Asterix (nimble, can jump higher) or Obelix (slow but deals more damage). If you want two-player co-op, the second player presses their own Start (Enter on a second keyboard or remapped buttons) and picks the other character. The game assumes both players share the same keyboard using the same set of Arrow keys? Actually in two-player mode, P2 uses a separate set of keys - check the in-game controls mapping or the emulator's P2 settings if needed.
Once in a level, run to the right, avoid or defeat Romans, collect items, and find the exit at the end of each stage. You attack with S (B button) and jump with X (A button). Use the D-Pad to move. Some platforms require precise jumps, and enemies can be stomped on or smacked with your weapon. Don't forget to grab health pickups - the magic potion refills your health bar. The game is fairly linear, so just keep moving forward.
