Arkanoid (Japan, older rev)
Arkanoid (Japan, older rev) on arcade
Arkanoid is a block breaker that hit arcades in 1986, developed and published in Japan by Taito. This particular version is the older Japanese revision, meaning it predates later tweaks and bug fixes. It took the basic paddle-and-ball formula Atari's Breakout had popularized a decade earlier and injected new life into it with more elaborate brick layouts and power-ups.
How to Play Arkanoid (Japan, older rev) Online
The game boots straight into attract mode. Press Enter to start. You control a paddle called the Vaus that slides left and right along the bottom of the screen. The ball bounces off the paddle, bricks at the top, and the walls. Your goal is to clear every brick from the stage without letting the ball fall past your paddle. Each stage has a different pattern of bricks, some of which release power-ups when destroyed.
Power-ups fall slowly toward your paddle. Catch them with the Vaus to gain temporary abilities: Expand makes the paddle wider, Catch lets you trap the ball and aim your next shot, Laser fires three beams upward to obliterate bricks, and Disruption splits the ball into three for a short while. The game speeds up gradually, and later stages require quick reflexes and careful positioning. Since this is the Japanese revision, menu text is in Japanese, but the core action is intuitive - just move and hit.
