The game follows a diverse group of heroes who oppose Kefka, a megalomaniac using a combination of long-lost magic and technology to take over the world. It was released in North America initially under the title Final Fantasy III. Final Fantasy VI is the sixth main entry in the Final Fantasy series, it was the final main entry to feature 2D sprite based graphics, and it was the first main entry directed by people other than Hironobu Sakaguchi: Yoshinori Kitase and Hiroyuki Ito. Nobuo Uematsu composed the game's score and Yoshitaka Amano returned as character designer and concept artist.
