The game begins at Emerald Hill Zone, but the level layouts are completely different from the original. Your goal remains the same: reach the end of each act while collecting rings and avoiding or defeating enemies. But expect surprises around every corner, including redesigned traps and platforms that require precise timing.
The core loop is the same as any classic Sonic game: accelerate through loops, jump on badniks, and gather rings as a buffer against damage. The major difference is that Aluminium Edition is unforgiving. Many sections demand pixel-perfect jumps, and rings are often placed in dangerous spots. Also, you can toggle between Sonic alone or Sonic and Tails by selecting the character at the start.
