Getting Started

Phantasy Star Adventure is a text-driven adventure game. You navigate through menus and read story text to progress. Use the D-Pad to move a cursor over choices displayed on screen, then press the A button (X key) to select an option. The B button (S key) is used to cancel or go back. Since the game is entirely in Japanese, menus and dialogue are untranslated. If you don't read Japanese, playing with a guide or translation patch is essential to understand the story and puzzles.

The core loop involves reading presented scenarios, making choices that advance the plot, and occasionally examining objects or locations through verb commands (e.g., "look," "use," "talk"). There is no combat or action - it's pure storytelling and decision making. Pay attention to context clues in the text (like key word kanji or repeated phrases) to figure out what to do next. Save often using the Start button (Enter) to access the save menu, as the game can be unforgiving if you pick a dead-end choice.
