Getting Started

When you boot up the game, you'll be greeted with a Japanese title screen. Press Start (Enter) to go to the main menu, where you'll see options likely including "New Game" (start a new game) and maybe a password or continue option. Since the menus are in Japanese, look for the first item to start playing. Navigate with the D-Pad and confirm with the A button (X key).

Once in the game, you'll find yourself in a first-person view inside a series of maze-like arenas. Your goal is to navigate these levels while shooting at the smiling face enemies that appear. Use the D-Pad to look around and move forward or backward by pressing up or down. Press the B button (S key) to fire your weapon. The core gameplay loop is simple: explore each maze, shoot all enemies, and find the exit to the next stage.

Because the Game Gear version has a smaller screen and lower resolution than its console counterparts, be prepared for a more cramped view. Enemies can appear suddenly around corners, so move cautiously. Keep an eye on your health bar, and if you take too many hits, you'll have to restart the level. There's no save system, so you'll need to use passwords to continue your progress.
