Defenders of Oasis (USA, Europe)
About Defenders of Oasis (USA, Europe)
Defenders of Oasis is a role-playing game that hit the Sega Game Gear in 1992. It was released in both North America and Europe under that title, while in Japan it went by the name Shadam Crusader: Harukanaru Oukoku. The game is an original RPG from that era, not a port or conversion, so it was designed specifically for the small handheld screen and limited controls of the Game Gear.
How to Play Defenders of Oasis (USA, Europe) Online
Getting Started
When you first start Defenders of Oasis, you will likely be prompted to name your hero. After that, you begin in a small town where you can talk to townspeople, buy equipment from shops, and prepare for adventure. The core loop involves exploring a top-down overworld, entering dungeons and towns, and engaging in turn-based battles against random encounters.
Combat is menu-driven: you choose attacks, magic, items, or flee. Keep an eye on your hit points and magic points, and make sure to save at inns or save points whenever possible. As with most RPGs of the time, grinding for experience and gold between story events is normal. The game uses a traditional fantasy setting with forests, caves, and castles to explore.
If you are new to the genre, talk to every non-player character to get hints and find hidden items. There is no auto-map, so drawing your own or taking mental notes can help navigate larger dungeons. The game is linear, but side areas may hold useful treasure.
