What is Addams Family, The?

The Addams Family on NEC TurboGrafx-CD is a single-player action platformer released in 1993 in the USA. It was part of the early 1990s push to bring popular licensed properties to the TurboGrafx-CD, leveraging the CD format for enhanced audio and cutscenes. The game was designed to appeal to fans of the quirky, macabre TV and film franchise, combining familiar characters with side-scrolling gameplay. Compared to other TurboGrafx-CD titles from that era, The Addams Family stands out for its use of digitized voices and animated cutscenes, which were common features on the platform thanks to the CD-ROM's storage capacity. Gameplay-wise, it follows many conventions of platformers of the time, with a focus on exploration and combat, but it does not push the hardware as far as some of the more technically ambitious TurboGrafx-CD games. It fits well among the console's library of licensed platformers, offering a straightforward but polished experience. Today, The Addams Family on TurboGrafx-CD will appeal mainly to collectors and retro enthusiasts who appreciate the platform's unique library and the nostalgic value of early CD-based games. Players who enjoy classic platformers with a licensed twist and a dose of humor will find it a worthwhile curiosity. Its relatively simple mechanics and linear progression also make it accessible for those interested in exploring TurboGrafx-CD's broader catalog.
