Real Ghostbusters, The (USA) is a platformer released for the Game Boy, based on the popular animated television series of the same name. It was developed during the early 1990s, a time when many franchises were making their way to handheld consoles, and was published by Activision. This title captures the essence of the show while adapting it to the limitations of the Game Boy hardware, making it a notable entry for fans of both the series and retro gaming in general. In the game, players take on the role of the Ghostbusters as they navigate through various levels filled with ghosts and obstacles. The gameplay involves running, jumping, and using a proton pack to capture ghosts, a mechanic familiar to fans of the series. Each level presents different challenges, and players must strategize how to manage their resources and tackle enemies while progressing through the stages, which can be quite engaging for those familiar with platformers of the era. What makes Real Ghostbusters, The worth trying today is its nostalgic connection to the franchise and its representation of the platforming genre of the early '90s. While it may not be as polished or expansive as some later titles, it provides a fun throwback for those who enjoyed the cartoon. Its simplicity and charm can resonate with players looking for a quick gaming fix, especially within the context of other Game Boy titles that often emphasized straightforward gameplay mechanics and level designs.
