Getting Started

You control Major Rock Hardy and Captain Ace Gunn as they explore a series of maze-like levels filled with hostile robots called Xybots. The goal is to fight through each stage, eliminate all enemies, and find the exit to progress. Use the D-pad to move your character through the corridors, and press X to jump over obstacles or gaps.

Your main attack is firing your weapon, mapped to the S key. Watch your health bar on the top part of the screen; it decreases when enemies hit you. Collect power-ups and extra weapons from destroyed robots or scattered throughout the level. The game scrolls automatically in a third-person perspective, so be ready to shoot at enemies coming from any direction.

If you are new to the game, take your time learning the maze layout and enemy patterns. The split-screen display from the arcade is compressed on the Lynx, but you still get vital info like your score, health, and current level number. Stay mobile and use the environment for cover when possible.
