Sentinel (Europe)
About Sentinel (Europe)
Sentinel (Europe) is a homebrew port of the classic puzzle game The Sentinel, originally created by Geoff Crammond and published by Firebird in 1986. This version brings the uniquely atmospheric 3D puzzle experience to the Atari 7800, a console not originally known for such complex titles. While the original ran on home computers like the BBC Micro and Commodore 64, this adaptation aims to recreate its distinctive visual style and gameplay on 7800 hardware.
How to Play Sentinel (Europe) Online
Getting Started
Sentinel puts you in a stark, wireframe landscape viewed from a first-person perspective. Your goal is to absorb energy from the environment and use it to teleport toward the Sentinel, a towering enemy that absorbs energy from the same land. The core loop involves rotating the view, selecting a target location, and absorbing energy from objects to power your teleportation.
You start at the lowest level and must work your way up to the Sentinel's position. To move, you must have enough energy to teleport to a selected spot. You can also absorb energy from trees, rocks, and even the Sentinel itself if you gain an advantage. The challenge is that the Sentinel slowly turns to face you, and if it locks onto your position, you lose. Strategic positioning and energy management are key.
New players should take time to understand the viewing controls (rotate left/right, look up/down) and experiment with absorbing small objects first. The game is turn-based in a sense - you can take your time before moving. The Sentinel is always watching, so avoid staying in its line of sight for too long. There is no combat; it is purely a puzzle of stealth and resource management.
