Ninja Golf (USA)
Ninja Golf (USA) - Sports Classic
Ninja Golf is a 1990 Atari 7800 title developed by BlueSky Software and published by Atari Corporation. It was programmed by David A. Dentt and David R. Sullivan and is one of the last games released for the console. A planned Atari 8-bit computer version was cancelled, making this the only commercial release.
The game blends golf with beat 'em up action. Each hole starts with a tee shot where you hit the ball. Then you control a ninja in a side-scrolling section, fighting various enemies as you make your way to where the ball landed. When you reach the green, a fire-breathing dragon boss appears and you must defeat it by throwing shurikens before you can putt.
Ninja Golf is a curious oddity from the late life of the Atari 7800. Its unconventional mix of genres makes it memorable, though the gameplay can be repetitive. For collectors and retro enthusiasts, it's a fascinating glimpse at what developers tried when hardware was aging. It's not a deep game but worth trying for its sheer novelty.
How to Play Ninja Golf (USA) Online
To begin a game, press Start. On the first hole you control the tee shot: aim using the D-pad and press S (B button) to swing. After the ball is launched, the view shifts to a side-scrolling section. Use the D-pad to move left and right, press X (A button) to jump, and press S to attack with your fists or shurikens. Fight through the enemies to reach your golf ball.
Once you reach the ball, you enter the green area where a dragon boss appears. The dragon breathes fire and you must throw shurikens at it while dodging its attacks. Defeat the dragon to clear the hole and move to the next one. The core loop repeats for all nine holes: tee off, fight through enemies, beat the boss, then putt (the putting mechanic is automatic after defeating the dragon). New players should focus on timing their attacks and jumps to avoid damage.
