Barnyard Blaster is a light gun shooting game released for the Atari 7800 and Atari 8-bit home computers in 1988. It was programmed by James Zalewski and published by Atari Corporation. This is one of the few games designed to work with the official Atari XG-1 light gun peripheral, making it a niche but important part of the 7800 library. If you were a kid in the late 80s with a light gun, this was a go-to for quick, zany shooting sessions. As a light gun shooter, Barnyard Blaster puts you in front of a carnival-style shooting gallery filled with farm animals. Your goal is to aim and fire at targets that pop up from behind fences, hay bales, and other rustic scenery. Hitting chickens, pigs, or cows scores points, but you have to be careful not to shoot the farmer or other friendly characters. The gameplay is straightforward - point, shoot, and watch your accuracy - but the pace picks up as you progress through waves of moving targets. Barnyard Blaster is worth trying today if you enjoy retro light gun games or want to see how Atari handled the genre on their lesser-known consoles. It isn't a deep or complex game, but its simple arcade loop and quirky barnyard theme give it a charm that holds up for a few rounds. Compared to contemporary light gun shooters on other systems, this one feels more playful and less intense, making it a fun break for anyone curious about the 7800's peripheral support.

How to play Barnyard Blaster online

To begin, load the game and press Start on the title screen. The main goal is to shoot barnyard animals that appear on screen while avoiding hitting the farmer. Your crosshair moves with the D-pad or mouse if you are using an emulator. Press the B button (S on keyboard) to fire at targets. Animals will pop up from different spots - hit them before they disappear to score points. The game keeps track of your accuracy and awards a final score at the end. There is no continues or save; each session is a quick arcade run. If you miss too many targets or shoot the farmer, your score suffers, so stay sharp. The action speeds up as you advance, testing your reflexes.
