Black Hole
Inside Black Hole
Black Hole is a twin-stick shooter from DufGames, first released in 2016 for the Ouya and ForgeTV platforms. A Nintendo Switch port followed on February 6, 2018. It belongs to the arcade shooter genre, drawing clear influence from classics like Geometry Wars. DufGames developed and published the title themselves, keeping the game squarely in the indie scene.
The player controls a small ship in a 2D arena, moving with one stick and aiming independently with the other to fire in any direction. Waves of enemy ships and obstacles appear, requiring quick reflexes and precise dodging. The twist is a gravity well at the center of the screen that pulls everything towards it - player, enemies, and bullets alike. Managing your orbit while avoiding the enemy and the black hole itself forms the core loop. There is no story or character-driven mode; it is purely about survival and score chasing.
Black Hole is a competent, if straightforward, entry in the arcade twin-stick canon. It does not reinvent the genre but executes its gimmick well. For fans of quick, pick-up-and-play shooters, it offers exactly that - snappy action, simple visuals, and a focus on high scores. It may feel slight next to bigger titles, but as a downloadable indie release, it wears its simplicity honestly and will satisfy anyone hunting for a no-frills shooter to play in short bursts.
How to Play Black Hole Online
Getting Started
Start a new game from the main menu using the Start button (Enter). You'll be dropped into an arena with a black hole at its center. Use the Arrow Keys to move your ship around the screen. The black hole's gravity will pull you, so you must constantly thrust away or spiral around it to avoid being drawn in.
Fire your weapon using the B button (S key). Aiming is not locked to eight directions since the game expects twin-stick input. With keyboard, you will need to practice moving with Arrow keys while pressing S to shoot in the direction your ship faces. The default move-and-shoot mapping means you cannot independently aim - this is a limitation of the keyboard layout; the original Ouya or Switch controller allowed full analog aim.
Survive as long as you can, destroying enemies and evading their projectiles. Your score increases with each kill and each second alive. There are no lives or continues - when you get pulled into the black hole or hit by an enemy, the game ends. The goal is simply to set a new high score.
