Assault (Rev B)
Getting to Know Assault (Rev B)
Assault is a 1988 multidirectional shooter from Namco, originally released in arcades and distributed by Atari Games in North America. This particular version is labeled Rev B, indicating a later revision of the arcade board. It uses a twin-stick control scheme reminiscent of games like Battlezone, placing you in command of a caterpillar-tread self-propelled gun.
How to Play Assault (Rev B) Online
To get started, insert a coin (or press 5 to add credits) and press Enter to begin. As the gun moves along its treads, you rotate the turret independently using the second control stick - here mapped to the arrow keys for movement and the X/S buttons for aiming direction. Your goal in each of the eleven stages is to destroy all enemy tanks and turrets while dodging their fire. The core loop is simple: clear the screen of threats, survive projectile barrages, and advance to the next area. New players should remember that your hull movement and turret rotation are decoupled, so you can scoot sideways while keeping your cannon pointed at enemies. There is no in-game save - this is classic arcade action where failure sends you back to the title screen unless you have more credits.
