Air Duel is a vertically scrolling shooter that hit arcades in 1990, brought to us by Irem. This is the Japanese M72 board version, a region-specific release that runs on Irem's M72 hardware. If you are familiar with Irem's shooters, you'll recognize the crisp sprite work and challenging design that defined their arcade output. No home ports were made, so this is the original arcade experience preserved.
How to Play Air Duel (Japan, M72) Online
Getting Started
Insert a coin (press Select or the assigned key) and press Start. You control a fighter jet that moves in eight directions. The core loop is simple: fly upward, dodge enemy bullets and obstacles, and shoot down waves of enemy aircraft. Collect power-up icons that appear from destroyed enemies to upgrade your main weapon or add side shots.
The screen scrolls automatically, so you must keep moving. Each stage ends with a boss fight - usually a large aircraft or mechanical structure. Pay attention to enemy patterns; some enemies spawn from the edges or dive at you. You have a limited number of lives, and losing all of them means a game over. The interface is in Japanese, but the menus are minimal: you will see a start screen with credit display and a high score table. There are no complicated menus to navigate, just insert credit and start.
