Sangokushi III (Japan)
Inside Sangokushi III (Japan)
Sangokushi III (Japan) is a historical strategy simulation released for the Sega Genesis in 1992. Published and developed by Koei, it is part of the long-running Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. This version was only sold in Japan, so menus and text are entirely in Japanese. It represents the third main entry in Koei's grand strategy franchise on 16-bit hardware.
How to Play Sangokushi III (Japan) Online
Getting Started
When you boot the game, you'll see a title screen in Japanese. Press Start to proceed to the main menu. From there, you can start a new game, load a saved game, or adjust options. Since the interface is unlocalized, you may need to experiment or consult a translation guide to navigate menus.
In the game, you choose one of the warlords from the Three Kingdoms period. Your goal is to unify China by managing your domain's economy, military, and diplomacy. The core loop involves issuing orders each turn: recruiting officers, developing cities, forming alliances, and launching invasions. Battles are resolved through a separate tactical map where you command units on a grid.
New players should start with a smaller, easier ruler like Cao Cao or Sun Ce. Pay attention to officer loyalty and food supplies. Try to avoid fighting multiple wars at once. If you're unfamiliar with Japanese menu choices, look for the kanji for 'new game' (新しく始める) or consult a fan translation guide online.
