Ecco - The Tides of Time (USA) (Beta) is a pre-release build of the second game in the classic Ecco the Dolphin series for the Sega Genesis. This underwater action-adventure sequel picks up right where the original left off, continuing the dolphin's journey through a story that mixes science fiction and marine exploration. Novotrade (later Appaloosa Interactive) developed it, and Sega published the final version in 1994, but this beta offers a glimpse at an earlier stage of development.

Getting Started
Press Start to begin a new game. You control Ecco the Dolphin, swimming through vast underwater levels. The core loop involves exploring each area, using sonar to locate objectives, and interacting with objects like ancient machines or friendly sea creatures. You'll need to solve environmental puzzles by activating switches, moving blocks, or finding hidden paths to progress to the next zone.
Be mindful of your health bar and oxygen supply. Touching enemies or hazards reduces health, while air bubbles replenish oxygen. Some levels require you to navigate time portals that shift the world around you. This beta build may have incomplete levels or debug features not present in the final release, but the basic gameplay remains intact. Experiment with the controls to master sharp turns and fast swimming to evade predators.
