Getting Started

You begin as a young trainer in New Bark Town, just like in the original Pokemon Gold. Pick your starter from Professor Elm - but don't expect the usual types. Every Pokemon in this hack has been given a new type combination, so that Chikorita might end up as a Rock-type or something else unexpected. The core loop stays the same: explore towns and routes, battle wild Pokemon, catch them with Poke Balls, and challenge Gym Leaders to earn badges. But with all types shuffled, you'll need to relearn effectiveness and build a team that covers new weaknesses.

The game is fully in English, so menus are no trouble. Because this is a hack of the Game Boy Color original, you can save anywhere using the in-game save feature (not save states if you want to keep it authentic). If you hit a wall with a tough Gym Leader, try catching a few Pokemon from different areas - since every species is different, you might find a perfect counter by exploring early routes. There's no need to grind excessively, but expect some surprises when evolved forms show up with completely changed types.
