The New Batman Adventures: Chaos in Gotham dropped on the Game Boy Color back in 2001, and it's a side-scrolling action game that really captures the vibe of the animated series. It came out in Europe first, with a bunch of languages packed in - English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch - so more folks could play it wherever they were. Digital Eclipse handled the development while Ubisoft published it, and they stuck to the cel-shaded look from the show as best they could on the small screen.

You're Batman, obviously, and you've got to clean up Gotham as the Joker and his pals run wild. The game plays out across several stages where you jump, punch, and use gadgets like Batarangs and the bat grapple to get around. Each level has you fighting thugs and avoiding traps while you try to reach the end. There's a bit of light exploration too - sometimes you need to find keys or switches to open the path forward. It's pretty straightforward beat-'em-up platforming with a few vehicle sections thrown in to liven things up.

For a Game Boy Color game tied to a cartoon, Chaos in Gotham does a decent job of bringing Batman's world to a handheld. It's not the deepest or longest game on the system, but if you're into the animated series or just want a solid little action platformer from that era, it's worth a play. The sprite work is nice and the music tries hard to match the show's mood. It sits comfortably alongside other licensed GBC games - nothing groundbreaking, but a fun way to spend an afternoon if you've got the cart.
