Estpolis Denki - Yomigaeru Densetsu (Japan)
About Estpolis Denki - Yomigaeru Densetsu (Japan)
Estpolis Denki - Yomigaeru Densetsu is the Japanese release of what Western players know as Lufia: The Legend Returns, a turn-based RPG for the Game Boy Color. It came out in 2001, developed by Neverland and published by Taito, making it the third entry in the Lufia series. Being a Japan-exclusive version, all menus and text are in Japanese, which is something to keep in mind if you're importing or emulating it today.
How to Play Estpolis Denki - Yomigaeru Densetsu (Japan) Online
Getting Started
When you start Estpolis Denki - Yomigaeru Densetsu, you'll be dropped into a world map with a party of characters. The core loop is standard for a Japanese RPG: talk to townspeople, explore dungeons, fight random encounters, and advance a story about stopping the four sinistrals. The battles are turn-based, so you'll choose commands like attack, magic, or item from menu screens.
Since this is the Japanese version, menus are entirely in kanji and kana. If you don't read Japanese, you may need to rely on memory from the English release (Lufia: The Legend Returns) or a fan translation guide. The game uses a traditional level-up system and equipment management, so expect to spend time sorting gear in the item screen. Save points are located in towns and sometimes on the world map - use them often, as the battery-backed save keeps your progress between sessions.
