Dark Wizard
Getting to Know Dark Wizard
Dark Wizard (known in Japan as Dark Wizard: Yomigaerishi Yami no Madoushi) is a role-playing game that landed on the SEGA CD in 1993. Developed and published by Sega, it was one of the early RPGs on the platform, taking advantage of the CD-ROM format for its audio and larger map data.
You control a party of characters navigating a fantasy world from a top-down perspective. Combat is turn-based, with random encounters typical of the era. The game features a branching story and multiple character classes, giving some replay value.
While not as flashy as some later SEGA CD titles, Dark Wizard remains a solid RPG for collectors interested in the console's library. It shares DNA with other early 90s JRPGs but its SEGA CD-exclusive soundtrack and cutscenes make it a unique artifact.
How to Play Dark Wizard Online
When you start Dark Wizard, you select a character class and name your hero. The game begins with a short introduction before you venture into the overworld. Your main goal is to explore towns, dungeons, and wilderness, talking to NPCs and fighting monsters to level up.
Combat is turn-based - you choose actions from a menu for each party member. Pay attention to your characters' health and magic points, and save often using the inn or save points. Since menus are in English (assuming US release), navigation is straightforward. If playing the Japanese version, you'll need to navigate kana menus, but the core loop remains the same.
