Energy (Japan)
What is Energy (Japan)?
Energy is a sci-fi side-scrolling action game for the NEC TurboGrafx-16 (known as PC Engine in Japan). It was released exclusively in Japan, though the exact release year is not widely documented. The game is based on an earlier PC-88 title called Ashe, which sets its thematic foundation. Like many early PC Engine games, it showcased the system's hardware capabilities with detailed sprite work and smooth scrolling.
How to Play Energy (Japan) Online
Getting Started
Power on the game by pressing Start at the title screen. Since this is a Japanese import, all menus and text are in Japanese. Look for the option that starts the game (usually the first option) to jump into the action. You control a character moving left to right across sci-fi environments, battling enemies and avoiding hazards.
The core loop involves progressing through side-scrolling stages, using your weapon to defeat foes and collecting power-ups or items along the way. Pay attention to patterns in enemy attacks and platform layouts. If you get hit, you lose a life; run out of lives and it's game over. The game uses a traditional arcade-style continues system.
For navigation, assume the D-pad moves your character, the A button jumps, and the B button attacks. Experiment with the other buttons as they may trigger secondary actions. The limited English information available means trial and error is part of the experience. Stick with it and you'll internalize the gameplay flow.
