World Class Baseball (USA)
World Class Baseball (USA) - Sports Classic
World Class Baseball is a baseball simulator for the NEC Turbografx-16, developed by Hudson. It originally hit Japanese shelves as Power League before being localized for North America under this title. This was one of the early sports releases on the platform, aiming to bring arcade-style baseball action home.
The core gameplay revolves around a full nine-inning baseball match. You take control of a team, facing off against either the computer or another player. Pitching, batting, fielding, and base running are all handled with simple button presses and directional input. The game keeps things straightforward - no complex management sim elements, just the on-field action.
Today, World Class Baseball stands as a decent example of early Turbografx-16 sports titles. It is not as deep or polished as later entries like Baseball Stars, but it captures the pick-up-and-play feel common to many 8-bit era baseball games. If you enjoy retro sports games or want to see how baseball translated to the TG16, this is worth a quick playthrough.
How to Play World Class Baseball (USA) Online
After launching the game, you are first taken to a title screen. Press Start to proceed to the team selection menu. You can choose between two teams and set the number of innings (typically nine). Use the D-Pad to scroll through options and the B button to confirm. The game then begins with your team at bat or in the field depending on the coin toss. Pitching involves selecting pitch type and location with the D-Pad and pressing B to throw. Batting requires timing your swing with the B press as the ball approaches. Fielding is automatic to some degree, but you can move your fielders with the D-Pad and throw to bases using the A button. The core loop is simply playing through each inning until the game ends. There is no season mode or stat tracking - just single exhibition matches.
